Good afternoon!

Hope all is well with each of you. It’s been an interesting weekend here. A new book up for sale (have you grabbed a copy of ‘Guarding Charon’ yet?), and a daughter graduating from high school.

As I sat in the bleachers, I thought off and on of my own graduation. The differences between her ceremony and mine. The emotions I felt, and wondered if she felt the same way.

Thirty years ago, as I sat in a rather uncomfortable folding chair while speakers droned on, I didn’t have the same dreams I do now. My life has taken a very unexpected Path. it’s never been smooth, that’s for certain. And I’ve made missteps along the way. Fell in love with the wrong guys, had days where I was a real wench. Started to study one thing, only to find out in spectacular fashion it wasn’t what I needed in my life. Found a new passion, followed it through to a 4 year degree.

Now, I write. I guide my daughters on how to find their own Path. And, maybe, I’ve helped a few people who follow this blog to go into the role of being a published author with eyes wider open than I had.

At 48, I can say I’ve finally found my feet moving forward like they should. I can look in the mirror every day and be happy with what I see. Not just the physical appearance, but the soul behind the exterior. I am the person I was born to be.

Yet, I still hold back in some ways. I become reluctant to really push my books. I put on a happy face and say sales are amazing even when they’re not. Of all the things I’m still trying to unlock, the mysteries of marketing and promotion are at the top of the list.

So, I search for something different to try. Something new that I can afford but haven’t done yet. There’s no magic formula to unlock sales. You can’t force people to buy your books. All you can do is smile, be pleasant, and hope that some magic happens.

Morning.

I can’t say it’s a good one. While I myself am straight, I have many friends who love someone of the same sex. To me, it doesn’t matter. You love who you love. As long as it’s between two consenting adults, my personal thoughts don’t matter.

Then, the tragedy in Orlando happened. This is hate, pure and simple. Hate and fear. And it’s happening far too often in the country I love.

As writers, we possess the power to mold opinions with our words. We can influence someone with a single sentence, or a lone paragraph. We can’t choose who reads our books or what character they identify with. But we do have this power.

For myself, I’d rather use it to promote love and acceptance over hatred. I take this responsibility with complete understanding. While my writing leans to the Wiccan faith, I steer clear of being critical of any faith. I’ve had characters who decided they were gay. Fine.

I want to be accepted for who I am. Not who you think I should be. I am me. Not who someone else dictates.

I am an author. I am a mother. I am a wife. I am a publishing executive. I am a medieval re-creator. I am ‘owned’ by a cat. I am Wiccan. I am afraid of spiders.

But I am NOT filled with hate for anyone who doesn’t agree with me. I am not opposed to someone who is Christian, Jewish, or Muslim. I have no say in someone who is gay or bisexual.

Because I do not run the world. I do not bend it to my will. I live my life according to the tenets of my faith. I can get up in the morning and look myself in the mirror without hating any part of what stares back at me.

As an author, I choose to be an Ambassador of Love and Acceptance.

One should always read the fine print…especially with an inheritance from a relative you didn’t know existed.

In a rut doesn’t even begin to describe Grace’s life at 22. Her ex is using his position as a cop to stalk her, getting her fired from every job she finds. Her parents, not knowing how abusive he could be, believe all her problems would vanish if she’d simply marry him.

After losing yet another job, a lawyer arrives. A relative has died and left her entire estate in Maine to Grace. Eager to shake the dust of Bruce and small town Texas off of her for good, she leaps at the chance. She even changes her name.

Then she learns that her great aunt was a Witch…and the house has some big secrets. Secrets that she has to protect for six months if she hopes to inherit the entire estate and truly be free of her past.

“Guarding Charon” is now in the inbox of my editor at Solstice, waiting for her to work her magic and help me get it into shape for all of you to read!!!

To give you a teaser or two, here’s the first draft of the blurb:

In a rut doesn’t even begin to describe Grace’s life at 22. Her ex, now a cop, is getting her fired from every job she finds. Her parents believe all her problems would vanish if she’d simply marry him.

After being fired yet again, a lawyer arrives. A relative  has died and left her entire estate in Maine to Grace. Jumping at the chance to reinvent herself, she agrees to live in the house for 6 months. Eager to shake the dust of Bruce and small town Texas off of her for good, she even changes her name.

Then she learns that her great aunt was a Witch…and the house has some big secrets. Secrets that she has to take care of for six months if she hopes to inherit the entire estate and truly be free of her past.
