Everyone please welcome author S. C. Alban!

1. What’s the title of your latest release? Link?

My latest release is A Life Without Living. You can find it at:http://www.amazon.com/Life-Without-Living-S-CAlban/dp/1625261543/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424753638&sr=8-1&keywords=A+Life+Without+Living

2. Why do you like writing in this genre?

I think I love writing fantasy because I love reading fantasy. There is something to be said about being able to open a book and literally disappear into a different world with characters as real as anyone. I love the idea that anything is possible and if I can create a world in which the fantastical becomes reality (if only for a brief moment), then I am a happy lady.

3. What do you like to read?

I love to read fantasy. I love vampires and witches and werewolves and magic, so pretty much anything with those components is going to be an entertaining read for me. I like Rochelle Mead and Laurell K. Hamilton.

4. Favorite movie?

If by favorite movie, you mean a movie that I could watch over and over and over in a single day and never get tired of it, well, then I’d have to say The Goonies. But really, I enjoy a lot of movies from Whale Rider to Harry Potter to Little Ashes to Lord of the Rings to Food, Inc. I’m all over the place with movies. It really just depends what mood I’m in.

5. What are your writing habits? Music or silence? Daily regimen or spurts of creativity?

I’m a loud music listener. I really need to tune out the world and go into my head when I write. I try to keep a schedule, but I’m still trying to figure out what my rhythms are.

6. What was the most surreal moment you’ve had as an author?

I recently went to the East bay Comic-Con in Northern California. The most surreal moment was when I was meeting people and they were excited to meet me and talk about my book. I remember signing the first book I sold and thinking “Holy cow! I’m an author for real!” I still can’t believe that it’s actually happening.

7. How can readers find you?

I’m all over the place now… You can find me on Facebook (www.facebook.com/scalban), Twitter (www.twitter.com/muchasfloras), my website where I blog (www.scalban.com), and on Instagram @S.C._Alban

8. What do you know now about being published that you wish you’d known before submitting?

I wish I would have started my blog earlier…like 3 years earlier…lol! It’s been such a huge learning curve for me and I do wish I had laid more ground work down before I jumped on this wild ride! But I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

9. Favorite snack/drink while writing?

Popcorn. And, a scotch.

10. Look at your writing area…what’s the item you keep to inspire you (piece of artwork, figurine)?

I’ve never really thought about that before. But now that you ask, I usually have a candle lit in the room where I am writing. That dancing flame keeps me going. I find it very motivating. Funny, how I never really noticed that before.

Thanks for stopping by, S.C.! Best of luck with the book!

Hey! It’s Monday! Sun is shining. Kids are getting ready for school. And I have my coffee!

So, last week I got invited to submit a short story to a contest. I’m proud to say that ‘Ralph the Jinn’ is doing well! It’s currently sitting at #5, with voting open until May 5th.

Yes…I need votes. Lots and lots if I want to win. Easy to do…go to the link, log in with FB or create an account, click on the heart next to ‘Ralph the Jinn’, and you’re done. Reviews are a bonus, and I’ll get to why in a moment. First off, the contest link! http://www.inkitt.com/anotherworld

There’s something that comes up every now and then in writing, and I’ve been hit for the first time in this contest. It’s called sock puppets. That’s when an author creates alternate accounts, leaves rave reviews about their own work…and trashes whatever they feel is ‘competition’. My short story has been targeted by one of these individuals.

First off, the reviews have no merit and I’ve discounted them. They’re not bringing up valid points, complain about my grammar (when the review itself is poorly written), and get personal. It’s not about the story, but aimed at the author. They’re trying to get under my skin so I’ll quit talking about the contest. I’ll stop asking for votes.

Do I know for certain who’s doing this? No, not for certain. However, when the reviewers who trashed my story are trashing most of the others in the top 20…except for 1. And that one gets lengthy, rave reviews. Yeah. It’s easy to put two and two together.

As an author, I see this as unethical. It’s not a matter of competing with other authors for sales. Because the reader decides what they want to read. You’re only going to get people to look at your review and laugh. A good author, one who knows it for what it is, will shrug it off. Maybe laugh a little that you’d feel threatened enough by a short, 600 word story to react in this way. And move on.

Which is precisely what I’m doing. Moving on.

So, please, go vote. I’d like to win, yes. But there is part of me that’d be happy with making it higher on the list than this particular individual.

The coolest thing happened earlier this week! I got invited on Twitter to enter a contest! First time that’s happened, and I’m honored!

Went through some short stories and found a favorite. Just uploaded it to the site today. If you have time, please give it your vote and share the link.

Hello everyone!

Vacation was a blast! Muse the Purrbot has forgiven me for leaving her for a full week. Much coffee was purchased during our visit to Harry & David. And even more relaxing happened.

Yes, you can drive 7+ hours most days and relax. LOL

I’ve got things going on ‘Sanctuary’ again. And I’m thinking of a great promotion for later this summer! I need YOUR help with it, though.

The plan is to give away a tote bag filled with print books, promo cards, and either a t-shirt or coffee mug (winner’s pick). Both the tote bag and shirt/mug would have covers on them!

So, let me know what covers interest you the most….do you want to have your morning coffee with ‘Fin’s Magic’ or ‘Mark of the Successor’? Carry books to the beach with ‘Daughter of Hauk’? Let me know! I really do want to hear from my readers what they think my best covers are.

Road trip!

Yep, it’s Friday. Not Monday. LOL

Vacation’s coming up, and so is a road trip! Which is why I’m posting today. Where we’ll be on Monday has no internet (yes, there are such places!). However, the usb drive has a copy of one of my wip’s and the netbook’s packed. Writing can still happen!

One of the things I love to do on road trips is leave behind signed postcards on community bulletin boards. Be sure to follow me on Twitter (@DaughterHauk) to find out where and when I leave them behind!

Here’s a photo of what they look like. Pretty cool, huh? Of course, they’ll be signed.

If you see me tweet out leaving one behind and live in the area, let me know if you get it!
